Citizen may not have been first in the 1969 race to create the world’s first automatic chronograph, but they quickly responded with the 8110—and it was well worth the wait: Designed to outshine Seiko’s 6138, the 8110 features a hi-beat movement at 28,800 vph, a dual register display, and a true “flyback” chronograph, allowing you to reset mid-event without stopping. The day and date are independently adjustable, with the day set via the reset pusher, a feature that certainly makes you appreciate Citizen's engineering prowess.
 
Compact at 38mm, this model showcases the distinctive "Bullhead" design, where the crown and pushers are positioned at the top. This not only makes the chronograph easier to operate but also imparts a bold, unconventional look that sets it apart from traditional chronographs.
 
Today’s offering is a pristine, unused JDM variant: the Ref. 4-901177K, known as “Mickey.” It features a stunning silver dial with a radial finish, preserved in its original factory condition, complete with original tags, manual, and box—a collector’s dream. While Citizen has released faithful recreations, nothing compares to owning the original. To fully appreciate this daring yet subtly sporty timepiece, the original is unmatched.
