Citizen Diamond Flake F1507051

The race to create the world’s thinnest watch began over 60 years ago, with Seiko and Citizen at the forefront of this engineering challenge. In the early 1960s, both brands were competing to develop timepieces that were not only precise and robust but also ultra-thin. Seiko set the bar in 1960 with its Goldfeather model, measuring just 2.95mm thick. However, Citizen outdid Seiko in 1962, unveiling the Citizen Diamond Flake at an astonishing 2.75mm, claiming the title of the world’s thinnest three-hand watch.

The Citizen Diamond Flake came in three versions: the standard Diamond Flake, the Diamond Flake Date, and the Flake Date, with the standard model being the thinnest. Made with premium materials like white gold, it exuded luxury while maintaining its slim profile. The watch’s movement, the Citizen Cal.0700, was a meticulously crafted manual wind caliber, featuring 25 jewels and a gold-plated finish. This movement was not only exceptionally thin but also showcased fine decoration, exemplifying Citizen’s commitment to high-end craftsmanship. The modern-day Citizen Diamond Flake still holds its charm. Measuring 38mm in diameter, it stands larger than many dress watches of its era, which were typically 34mm to 36mm.

The watch features a stunning silver sunburst dial with polished hour markers and dauphine hands, exuding both simplicity and elegance. Its classic design, coupled with meticulous finishing that rivals the famous Seiko Zaratsu polish, gives it a timeless appeal. This particular model, preserved in new old stock condition, retains its original light brown leather strap and Citizen-embossed steel buckle from 1962, making it a rare and valuable collector’s piece.

Celebrated for both its engineering and its aesthetic, the Citizen Diamond Flake remains a coveted watch. Its minimalist dial, polished dauphine hands, and high-quality movement make it a standout. Despite being over five decades old, the watch’s 38mm case feels just right for modern tastes, and its original strap adds to its sense of luxury. With its pristine condition, including the original packaging and price tag, this timepiece offers a perfect blend of history, craftsmanship, and style, making it a true gem for any collector.

The watch currently works flawlessly and it will be sold as is to retain it's original state. Please let us know if you wish to service it.
