The 56GS series of vintage Grand Seiko stands out as a pinnacle of diversity, second only to the 61GS line. Aside from boasting 35 different models, it shines its inclusion of all three complication versions: the 5641A (no-date), 5645A (date), and 5646A (day-date) movements.
Crafted exclusively in 18YG yellow gold, the distinctive C-shaped 7005 served as the flagship not only of the 56GS series but also of the entire Grand Seiko line-up during the Shōwa era, commanding the highest retail price.
Upon its release, the 5646-7005 offered the choice of leather straps or a scarce 18K yellow gold bracelet, with a price tag of JPY 500,000 or approximately JPY 1,700,000 as of today. And truly, once you hold this masterpiece in your hands, its worth becomes undeniable: The C case's edges feature a matte hairline finish, enhancing the sleekness of the mirror-polished bezel. The dial definitely steals the spotlight with its white waffle pattern, which often develops a charming yellow hue as it ages. The bar hour markers contrast sharply against the slender pencil handset, perfectly complementing the raised "SEIKO" and "GS" logos, as well as the golden day/date frame at 3 o'clock.
Making this example stand out is the case material and the incredibly crisp condition. Most likely unused as it retains its original sticker on the case-back, it also comes with its original Hinomaru-stamped 18YG buckle and original box making it a treat for the eyes.

This 56GS is in beautiful condition. The case still boasts its factory-sharp edges, showing only a few minor storage marks. There’s a tiny, barely noticeable bump on the lower left edge of the case, which doesn’t detract from its overall appearance.
The linen dial is immaculate, maintaining its original waffile pattern. Both the handset and crown are entirely original and in flawless condition. Remarkably, the case still retains much of its original blue protective film, with only faint scratches from storage. The crystal remains free of any noticeable marks.
This 56GS comes paired with brown cowhide leather straps, its original 18K stamped GS buckle, and the original box.
