Originally celebrated for its expertise in cameras, Ricoh took a bold leap into watchmaking by acquiring Takano, which was a rewarding decision that redefined its legacy. The 1964 Tokyo Olympics and Osaka Expo '70, both monumental events in Japan’s post-war resurgence, served as key milestones in Ricoh’s journey. These global stages not only showcased Japan's technological prowess but also solidified Ricoh’s reputation for innovation, sparking a wave of creativity among Japanese watchmakers. This era remains one of the most captivating chapters in Japan’s horological history.
One of Ricoh's crowning achievements during this golden age was the Autojust series, introduced in the 1960s. It was here that Ricoh unveiled Japan’s first domestically produced instantaneous jump function, allowing the day and date to switch precisely at midnight, a feature reminiscent of the legendary Rolex Datejust. But Ricoh didn’t stop there. They elevated the design further with the addition of a GMT hand and a rotating GMT bezel, making this watch an extraordinary innovation of its time.
The aesthetics of the Autojust GMT are equally impressive: The silver sunburst dial immediately captivates, with its applied, lume-filled hour markers and lumed hands. The standout trident-shaped GMT hand adds a distinctive flair, offering excellent legibility and a dynamic, almost electric appearance. Encircling the dial is a precisely contoured 24-hour track, enhancing the practicality of the GMT function. Paired with its original bracelet and gear-like GMT bezel, this GMT exudes a bold, futuristic charm.
We are thrilled to present an unused, stickered example of this rare Autojust GMT model. With its limited production run, finding such a pristine example is no easy feat. The watch’s aggressive, avant-garde design is drawing growing admiration from collectors worldwide a true testament to Ricoh's enduring design.
The watch will be serviced before delivery, please expect 1-2 months for servicing to be completed.
