The Seiko Crown was Suwa’s 1959 replacement for the 1956 Seiko Marvel, their first fully in-house movement. The first Grand Seiko Ref.3180, released in 1960, was developed directly from the Crown and occupies its own important place in Seiko history.
The Crown series was very popular during the 60s and was a true playground for Seiko as they released a range of variants so wide that we're still discovering undocumented models even today.
One of the popular models under the Crown line-up is this very unique J16066 in stainless steel with a crown on the left intended for Left-handed persons. This particular model is very popular in Japan and has even been used in national certifications examination for watchmakers.
The case is signed J14066 and the case back still retains its original protective blue film. The dial is the main attraction of this beauty and it comes with a very unique silver lattice pattern with a bluish reflection complemented by the iconic dolphin hands and thin bullet hours markers. This gives it a very unique look unseen by any other models made by Seiko. Under the hood, this crown is powered by the Cal.560
The watch was originally found stored in an old watch store and was carefully kept in the collection.
The winding is very crisp and the watch operates without any issues. It will be sold as is to keep its original state.
Servicing is also possible upon purchase, please get in touch with us if you wish to service it.
Ships from Tokyo, Japan.
