Seiko Lord Matic Special 5216-7010

ntroduced in 1968, the Seiko Lord Matic (LM) series occupied the mid-to-high range of Seiko’s automatic watch lineup. It was built around the newly developed 56xx movement, produced by the Suwa Seikosha factory. A few years later, Seiko expanded the lineup with the LM Special, crafted by the Daini Seikosha factory and powered by the high-beat 52xx movement.

Among the many iterations of the Lord Matic series, the 5216-8020 stands out as one of the most sought-after "Special" variants. Produced only between 1975 and 1976, one glance is all it takes to appreciate its exceptional design.

The "Special" printed on the dial is no mere marketing flourish. In vintage Seiko terminology, this designation signifies a higher standard of movement regulation. The watch features a breathtaking Blue Morpho wings dial with an applied LM logo, an addition introduced to the lineup in 1970. The stunning blue gradation linen dial, paired with nine-facet cut glass, gives the watch an almost jewel-like radiance.

Technically, the Calibre 5216a stands above its peers: Unlike standard movements of its time, this upgraded caliber allows for seamless day and date quick-set and it was -3/+3 seconds accurate a day when new.

Then there’s the case: In profile, it swoops dramatically around the bezel, meeting it at sharp corners and polished surfaces that reflect everything around it. The rounded sides transition into the lugs, which are chiseled inward with remarkable precision. The bezel itself, a separate piece of stainless steel, appears to lift out of the case, with its beveling mirroring the angles of the case for a seamless, architectural effect: 37mm wide, under 10mm thick, and a compact 42mm lug-to-lug, perfectly balanced proportions for effortless wear.

We are offering a truly remarkable new old stock example: It retains its original clasp protective film, clasp sticker, instruction manual, and price tag, making it an extraordinary specimen.

If you’ve been searching for this rare Morpho dial variant or simply want a timepiece that commands attention, this one is perfect.

The watch is in perfect working condition and will undergo a thorough servicing upon purchase. Please allow 1-2 months for the servicing to be completed before it is shipped.
