The Seiko 6159-700X is a strong follow-up to the 62MAS dive watch, released by the Japanese watchmaker three years later. The watch features a 43mm stainless steel case that is 14mm thick and comes with a comfortable black rugged strap. It is best suited for medium-to-large-sized wrists. The black ceramic bezel has gold indicators to show elapsed time. The matte black dial has geometric hour markers, broad sword hands, and a date window at 3 o'clock, all of which are outlined in gold, giving the watch a classic and timeless appearance that still influences Seiko's current divers series.
 
The screw-down crown at 4 o'clock ensures it doesn't dig into the wearer's skin. Built for professional diving, it has a water resistance rating of 300 meters and is powered by the in-house Seiko Caliber 6159, which beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour and has a 45-hour power reserve.

If you look closely at the dial, you'll notice that this example has the RESIST logo rather than PROOF. The first 6159-7001 were first produced with the WATERPROOF designation, however, ISO waterproof standards became stricter and because of that Seiko has decided to change it to RESIST in preparation for the application of the ISO standard. This particular 7001 is a "Transitional" RESIST variant that was cased in a PROOF case which makes it even rarer. This notation change also impacted other Seiko divers models such as the 6105-8000 and the 6105-8110.
