Seiko's 6139-60XX chronographs hold an iconic status. With their distinctive barrel-shaped cases and striking color combinations, they are instantly recognizable and often serve as the catalyst for newly converted enthusiasts. Like many of Seiko's early chronographs, two versions were developed concurrently: a larger production model with fewer jewels for export and a smaller production model with higher jewel count exclusively for the Japanese domestic market.
 
Apart from the additional jewels, the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) 6139 models, along with other references, were referred to as "Speed Timers" and featured dials adorned with the "5 Sports" badge. Appropriately, the day of the week display switched between English and Japanese (Kanji), and these models offered unique color variations and signature bracelets not found in the export versions.
 
For collectors, these JDM references are highly sought after, but due to their limited availability outside of Japan, sourcing them can be challenging. That's why we are incredibly excited to present this exceptional timepiece from January 1970. Not only is it a rare reference in general, but it is also an early "Proof" model, showcasing jaw-dropping condition and serving as one of the earliest JDM Coke variants ever produced.
 
This watch is completely original and, following servicing, maintains near-perfect timekeeping. The chronograph functions are precise and responsive, with a snappy reset to zero.
