The 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo were historic as it was the first Asian-national Olympics to be broadcast live through satellite. Seiko was selected as the official timekeeper and created a range of timekeeping devices, including their first-ever mechanical chronograph caliber. This 21-jewel, 6mm-thin, manually-wound monopusher was ahead of its time, with a 38-hour power reserve. The steel case measured 38mm, making it suitable for most people and its design has held up well over the years. Despite Seiko's recent reissue of SARX069, the original remains a favorite among collectors.

The bidirectional bezel is made of steel with a black aluminum insert. The Seiko 5719 was fitted with 2 bezels: the original one, in black plastic, which proved not to be very resistant to wear and friction, was replaced by a steel bezel with a black insert which makes it much more resistant and qualitative.

Freshly serviced, this 5719-8980 was initially a deadstock and it is one of the best examples you can own.
