Grand Seiko 61GS 6146-8010 Arabesque

The 61GS series marked Grand Seiko's entry into the Hi-Beat era. Suwa's automatic calibres ran at 36,000 vph, a frequency that pushed mechanical precision further than anything the brand had attempted before. The 6146A at the heart of this reference adds a day-date complication and keeps the slim, balanced proportions that Taro Tanaka's Grammar of Design demanded: flat, distortion-free surfaces, sharp bevels, and a case that catches light with intent.

Within that disciplined framework, the 6146-8010 "Arabesque" is something of a quiet rebel. Its patterned dial trades the usual flat silver for a decorative surface that shifts and plays with the light, while the indices and hands keep the legibility you expect from a Grand Seiko. It is among the more unusual 61GS references, and rarely found in condition worth talking about.

Today's offering is an early example from February 1969. The case is sharp and, as far as we can tell, the watch has never been worn. It has been fully serviced and runs at 0s/day, ready to wear from day one.
