Grand Seiko 61GS 6156-8010 Special

Sale price¥0 JPY

In 1968, Suwa Seikosha debuted the 61GS, Japan's first automatic 10-beat movement watch, embodying Taro Tanaka's Grammar of Design philosophy. In 1969, Grand Seiko unveiled the 61GS VFA, setting a new accuracy standard but creating a pricing gap compared to the standard 61GS models.

The 1971 Number 1 catalog introduced the "Special" series, including three distinct models: the 6155-8000 with a date display, the 6156-8000 with a day/date complication, and the luxurious 6156-8010, boasting both a day/date complication and a faceted crystal, establishing itself as the most upscale option among the trio.

All three models, utilizing the 615x calibers, adhered to the "Grand Seiko Special Standard," ensuring a daily accuracy of +/- 3 seconds, bridging the gap between regular Grand Seiko and VFA standards.

The Ref.6156-8010 we offer for sale showcases an elegant design, featuring a flat white dial adorned with petite minute markers, ensuring a clutter-free appearance. The faceted crystal serves as the crowning touch, enhancing the dial's depth and immersiveness.

The watch was originally purchased from Nakaniwa, a renowned watch store in Osaka that continues to operate to this day.

Condition report
This Special is in exceptional, near-immaculate condition. The case preserves its sharp, factory-original edges, showcasing the distinctive Tanaka grammar of design profile. While there are a few light scratches from storage, they are minimal and do not detract from the overall quality.

The original silver dial is flawless, with the original handset and crown remaining in pristine condition. The case back, along with its gold medallion, is also in excellent shape, with traces of the original blue protective film still visible. The faceted glass is immaculate, with only a tiny, barely noticeable chip near the 2 o'clock position.

Included with the watch are its original box, a generic outer box, the certificate, the original buckle, and the original purchase certificate.
