Grand Seiko VFA 61GS 6185-8021 Full Set, Serial 130001

Serial number 130001. The first VFA off the line in March 1971.

The Grand Seiko VFA represents the absolute pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking. "Very Fine Adjusted" meant accuracy so precise it exceeded the strictest chronometer standards of its time, a level of performance few mechanical watches in history can claim.

Among the many VFA models, the Ref. 6185-8021 stands out as perhaps the purest expression of Taro Tanaka's Grammar of Design. Its restrained date complication, sharply faceted hour markers that rise boldly from the dial, and the legendary Calibre 6185B together embody Grand Seiko's uncompromising pursuit of perfection.

The serial tells its own story. Grand Seiko serials of this era encode the year and month, followed by the production number. 130001 reads as March 1971, unit 0001: the very first watch of that month's run. That kind of number matters to some collectors and means nothing to others, but it makes this example quite literally one of a kind.

Immaculate VFAs have become increasingly difficult to find. Unpolished ones with their original box and matching certificate are harder still. This set has both, and it was serviced by the Grand Seiko Service Center in 2026.

This VFA is immaculate and unpolished. The case retains its sharp, factory edges and crisp lines.

The original silver dial and handset are beautiful.

The caseback engravings are deep and fully intact.

The watch comes on a black alligator strap with its original signed buckle, together with its original box and matching certificate.
