Seiko SpeedTimer 6138-0040 Bullhead

Brown dial, top-mounted pushers, and 1976 written all over it.

While the Ref. 6139 may have been Seiko's first automatic chronograph, it's safe to say that the "Bullhead" is one of the brand's true icons. With the crown and pushers moved to the top of the case, it looks like nothing else Seiko made, and it captures the experimental spirit of the 1970s better than almost any watch of the decade.

The brown dial is the one that defines it. Warm, rich and unapologetically of its time, it pairs with the bold cushion case and steel bracelet to create what might just be the most '70s Seiko ever made from the SpeedTimer series. Despite its bold looks, the Bullhead wears comfortably, with a curved case that hugs the wrist in a way that feels natural and surprisingly balanced.

Today's offering is a late JDM SpeedTimer from August 1976, carrying the domestic "SpeedTimer" name on the dial. It is in immaculate condition: the case and original bracelet are sharp, the dial is immaculate, and the caseback is pristine. It also comes with its original instruction manual.
